NOTE: Due to the restrictions of Ulakbim’s limited coverage, the Web of Science citation search we are using is not capable of finding citations to all secondary authors. As a result, citations to some of your older papers may not appear. This can be remedied by searching by the first author of your papers.

Instructions on Producing Personal Citation Index Reports Using “Web of Science”

  • Access Institude for Scientific Information’s (ISI) Web of Science through the address http://www.isiknowledge.com (a new window will open)

  • Click on Full Search

  • Check the box for Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) – 1994-present and/or Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) – 1994-present and/or Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI) – 2002-present, whichever is applicable.
  • Select Year selection, then check the box for the year, which you want to search for. (Note that some of your for example, 2000 citations in articles publicate in the year may appear in 2001, so you may also want to do a separate search for 2001.)
  • Click the CITED REF SEARCH button on the bottom of the screen.

  • Under the CITED AUTHOR NAME field enter your name. Leave the CITED YEAR field blank.
  • Click the LOOKUP button on either the top or the bottom of the screen.

  • What appears on this screen is a list of your work which has been cited at least once within 2001. If … appears in front of your name under the Cited Author column, this indicates an article in which you were not the first author. Please note that the number given in the Hits column is not the number of citations this paper received in 2001, but the total number of citations since the article was published. IGNORE THIS NUMBER FOR PURPOSES OF THIS REPORT.
  • Click on the SELECT PAGE button on either the top or the bottom of the screen. This list may include paper in which you are not an author, but which appear because there is an author with a similar name. So be sure to uncheck items in which you are not among the authors to avoid cluttering further output.
  • When the boxes in front of all the articles you want are marked with a check mark, click on the SEARCH button which is just below the SELECT PAGE button.

  • This articles that appear on this screen are the articles in which your work was cited at least once during 2001
  • Click on the MARK ALL button on either the top or bottom of the screen.
  • When all boxes in front of the articles are marked with a check mark, click on the SUBMIT MARKS button.
  • Click on the MARKED LIST button on top of the screen.

  • The details of all articles in this marked list can now be formatted for printing, saved to a file, exported or sent as an e-mail message. The fields to display are indicatedon the bottom of the screen. Check the cited references box. Then click on FORMAT FOR PRINT. ( Note: You can also select sort options and select fields that you want to include in addition to the author, title and source from the Step 1 part, in the beginning of the page.)

  • The listing which you print, export, or e-mail will contain items of the following form(according to your select options):

  • From these lists you can identify all citations to your work. Please mark citations to your work and turn it in together with your annual faculty survey.

If you are among the authors of the citing paper, count that as a self-citation.
